High Academic Marks for Volleyball Complement Department Numbers

The full numbers from the fall of 2007 are in, and the University of Missouri volleyball team proved in the past semester to be a great component to the academic achievements reached by Mizzou Athletics on the whole as eight Tigers earned grade point averages of 3.0 or better. In addition, a recent NCAA report on Academic Progress Rate (APR) billed the department tops in the nation among public institutions in the BCS conferences.

Volleyball Camp Dates Released

The University of Missouri volleyball team will once again offer summer camps for high schoolers and youth interested in learning more about the sport of volleyball. Seven different types of camps will be offered, designed for the athlete at every level of their talents.

Ailes Added to USA Volleyball National Training Team

Tatum Ailes (Bellevue, Neb.), who just completed her four-year collegiate playing career at the University of Missouri, has been added to the U.S. Women's National Volleyball Training Team, according to Team USA Head Coach "Jenny" Lang Ping. Ailes, a libero, participated in her first session with the U.S. Women's National Training Team yesterday. She was a member of the USA Women's National A2 Red Team that competed at the USA Volleyball Adult Open Championships last May.

2007 Missouri Volleyball Season Highlights

Missouri reached NCAA Tournament play for the eighth-straight time in 2007 and is one of only 16 teams to have reached the tournament for each year this decade ... in addition, Mizzou, along with Nebraska, are the only teams in the Big 12 to have reached the post-season every year since 2000 ... The Tigers faced sixth-seeded and sixth-ranked Washington in the NCAA Tournament's first round in Seattle ... Mizzou came within four points of pulling the major upset, almost becoming the first unseeded team in tournament history to knock off a seeded team in the first round ... only twice before had an unranked team forced a ranked team to five games in tournament history ... With a final record of 17-13, the Tigers secured its eighth-straight winning season.

Volleyball Season-End Celebration Details Announced

To wrap-up the 2007 the Missouri Volleyball team will conduct its season-end celebration program and silent auction on January 20 in the Memorial Stadium Press Box in Columbia. Tickets are only $25 for the general public and $15 for students. Proceeding the 2 p.m., start of the program, hors d' oeuvres will be served during the silent auction which begins at 1:30 p.m.

The University of Missouri volleyball team (17-13) closed the 2007 campaign Friday night in an epic five-game match against the sixth-ranked and sixth nationally-ranked Washington Huskies (27-3), topped in five games, 30-23, 28-30, 30-22, 32-34, 11-15. Missouri becomes only the second team in NCAA Tournament to force a seeded team to five games in the first round. Senior Tatum Ailes tied a Big 12 and school single-match record with a career-best 39 digs. As well, senior Na Yang toppled Mizzou's single-season kills record, adding 26 on the night.

The Missouri volleyball team (17-12) will once again continue its year, playing in its eighth-straight NCAA Tournament starting Friday in Seattle.

Mizzou drew sixth-seeded and No. 6 nationally-ranked Washington (26-3) for its opener, having to play the Huskies on their home court. The Tigers are one of only 16 teams across the nation to make each NCAA Tournament since 2000. Should the Tigers become the first team ever to knock off a seeded team in the first round, they would play either Ole Miss or BYU in the second round.

Na Yang, Weiwen Wang Earn Big 12 Recognition

The Big 12 Conference announced Monday afternoon the conference's year-end volleyball awards. Tiger senior outside hitter Na Yang (Shan Dong, China) earned honorable mention in regards to the All-Big 12 team while freshman middle-blocker Weiwen Wang (Nanjing, China) was named to the league's inaugural All-Freshman Team.

Mizzou Volleyball Selected for Eighth-Straight NCAA Tournament

The Missouri volleyball team (17-12) learned Sunday of its at-large selection into the NCAA Tournament field of 64 teams. Mizzou, who will play in the post-season for the eighth-straight year, will play sixth-seeded and No. 6 nationally-ranked Washington (26-3), Friday, in the first round, in Seattle. The Tigers, placed in the Penn State regional, would face either BYU or Ole Miss on Saturday in the second round if they were to upset the Huskies. Among Big 12 teams, only Missouri and Nebraska have been selected to each NCAA Tournament since 2000.

Senior Day for Mizzou Volleyball A Success, Tigers Sweep Colorado

The Missouri volleyball squad (17-12, 10-10 Big 12) topped off the regular season Saturday in defeating Colorado (6-22, 1-19 Big 12), 30-20, 30-23, 30-22, in front of 1,512 fans on Senior Day. In their regular-season finales, senior Na Yang marked a double-double with 10 kills and a match-high 15 digs. Senior libero Tatum Ailes notched 11 digs on the day. Mizzou will find out its post-season fate Sunday.

A Tribute to Tiger Seniors Help Close Regular Season Saturday

The Missouri volleyball team (16-12, 9-10 Big 12) lost to No. 21 Oklahoma (21-8, 13-6 Big 12), 30-25, 30-26, 30-25 in Norman. Freshman Weiwen Wang led the Tigers with 16 kills on .273 hitting. Due to lineup configurations, freshman defensive specialist Caitlyn Vann played outside hitter in game three, collecting six kills for the Tiger cause.

A Trip to Sooner-Land Will Conclude Tiger Road Season

A week with two matches in the regular season remain for the Missouri volleyball team (16-11, 9-9 Big 12), coming down the stretch in pursuit of an eighth-straight NCAA Tournament bid. The final stretch will begin Wednesday with a trip to visit No. 21 Oklahoma (20-8, 12-6 Big 12) in Norman. The Sooners will look to avenge a Mizzou upset from September 22 when the Tigers defeated then-No. 25 Oklahoma in a thrilling five-setter in Columbia. In addition, Tiger senior Na Yang is 30 kills from breaking Mizzou's 15-year-old single-season kill record.

Tigers Drop Road Match at Texas A&M, 3-1

Senior Na Yang led the Missouri volleyball team with 19 kills on Saturday night in a four-game loss at the hands of Texas A&M in College Station. Yang moves to third on the Tiger all-time season-kill list (476), passing three others on the evening to be within one of Shen Danru for second on the season list. A&M won the match 30-28, 27-30, 30-22, 30-22.
