Tim Hickman Promoted to Associate Athletic Director

April 4, 2002

Columbia, Mo. - Tim Hickman, a 12-year veteran of the University of Missouri, has been promoted to associate athletic director for operations, as announced today by MU Director of Athletics Mike Alden.

Hickman is no stranger to Tiger Athletics, as he's spent the previous nine years as director of the Hearnes Center, where the majority of the athletic department is housed. After athletics assumed operations of Hearnes in July 2000, Hickman was promoted to assistant athletic director in July of 2001.

In his new role, Hickman, a 1989 graduate of MU (Business Administration), will oversee business operations for the athletic department. He'll take over for Peter Fields, who was recently named Athletic Director at Montana State after serving as MU's business director for the previous six years.

"I am excited about this new opportunity," said Hickman. "I have invested a large portion of my life in this institution as both a student and a staff member. I am proud to continue that association and am grateful that Mike Alden and our staff in athletics has the confidence in me to increase my role," he said.

"I'm very pleased to have someone as talented and knowledgeable about the University of Missouri as Tim Hickman," said Alden. "I'm confident that he'll do a tremendous job, and I'm happy that we can continue to recognize and reward talented and loyal people from within our organization," he said.

Previously, Hickman oversaw all business and operational aspects of the Hearnes Center. His responsibilities have included developing budget and marketing plans, pursuing and contracting all non-university events and overseeing the entire full service in-house operation of the Hearnes Center including concessions/novelty sales, computerized box office, event marketing and event staff.

Hickman is a former board member and treasurer of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce, where he currently chairs the budget and finance committee. He is a past president of the Mid-Missouri Tourism Council and a past board member of the Missouri Balloon Corporation that attracted the U.S. National Hot Air Balloon Championships to Columbia for three years (1995-97). He is also currently a board member and district vice president for International Association of Assembly Managers (IAAM).

A native of Perry, Mo., Hickman served as the Assistant Director of the Hearnes Center from 1990 until July 1992 when he took over as the director. Previous to his employment at MU, Hickman served as the Assistant Manager at the Midway Exposition Center for one year.

His wife Karen is the owner of Little Angels Preschool in Columbia. They are the parents of son Christopher (6 years old) and daughter Anna (4).
